COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSPD) -- Eleven people were kill in crashes on Ohio roads over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

"That's actually down from last year which had 16 fatalities, so we did see an improvement as compared to 2013," said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Vincent Shirey.

Troopers arrested 804 people for OVI, an increase of 4.3 percent. Safety belt enforcement increased by 9.6 percent, and drug arrests increased by 31 percent.

"Both Memorial Day and the 4th of July had more fatalities on the roadways. Troopers were out in full-force doing our best to get those fatalities down for the reporting period," he said.

Overall enforcement was up over five percent, with troopers stopping more than 35,000 vehicles in which a citation was issued.
