Melissa McCarthy is back with another comedy that will have us rolling in the aisles with Tammy, which she wrote with her husband Ben Falcone (and he directed it too).
So how was it mixing business with pleasure?
“Strangely, it was great,” she explains to On Air with Ryan Seacrest. “Everyone was like, ‘Ugh, that’s a lot of time together,’ I’m like, ‘I know, but he’s so mellow and funny’ that it was nice that we finally actually got to spend time together.”
Although she’s a successful comedian now with an Emmy win and Oscar nomination, Melissa does have meager beginnings. In fact, she worked as a barista at a Starbucks not far from Ryan’s studio.
“I was your barista perhaps,” she jokes. “I had no car so I had to work at places I could walk to, so I worked at the YMCA and the Starbucks right there and I started at 5 in the morning, so I was that first shift. And my God, 10 minutes before you open — you’re already opening at 5:30 in the morning, it’s a lot — without fail, always someone banging on the door going, ‘Awww, Come on!’ Anyone listening who’s that person … don’t do that.”
Ryan surprised Melissa with a call to that same Starbucks she used to work at … and free coffee for those waiting in line!
Listen to the audio above to hear what went down … and don’t miss Tammy when it hits theaters on July 2.
