Toledo City Council May Restore Some Road Funds

(Toledo, OH) Toledo city council intends to shift some borrowed money back to the capital improvement fund.

The legislation states city council president Steve Steel and the mayor are together proposing to to put back three million dollars from the general fund to the capital improvements budget for road repaving and other infrastructure.

According to the proposed ordinance, higher-than-expected revenue and lower-than-expected costs in last year's budget made the money available to be returned to its original purpose. The mayor originally borrowed 11 million dollars from capital improvements to balance the 2016 budget.

The returned money could quiet critics, including the mayor's election opponent, who claim city government can't account for its spending, following a controversy involving eight million dollars in the wrong city accounts.
