Federal Courthouse Reopens After Suspected Hazmat Situation

TOLEDO, Ohio - The federal courthouse in downtown Toledo has been reopened Monday afternoon after a possible hazmat situation.

WTOL 11 reports a call came into Toledo Fire around 1 p.m. reporting that a white, powdery substance was found in a package mailed to the federal courthouse. Crews tested the substance and found it was Sweet and Low, a sugar substitute.

Spielbusch was temporarily closed while crews were on scene. The employee that discovered the powder was medically evaluated as a precaution. Court proceedings went on as scheduled in a different building.
