Lightweight Champ Ryan Garcia, 21, Talks Dating, Retiring Early and More

Meet Ryan Garcia! The 21-year-old professional lightweight boxer stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, February 12, and shed light on everything from dating to why he wants to retire by 26.

The 15-time national champion and ESPN prospect of the year is only 21 and planning on retiring in just five years.

“My weight right now is around 139 but I fight around 135 so I have to lose 4 pounds,” Garcia shared with Seacrest ahead of his big fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on Friday, February 14. The rising star is set to defend his WBC Silver Lightweight Title in a 12-round fight against contender Francisco Fonseca.

So how does a boxer shed weight? Garcia explained that he’ll put on a sauna suit and hit the treadmill.

“I could do it in a hour if I wanted to,” he teased of how quickly he can shed the excess weight.

The genetically-gifted athlete got started in boxing after not liking the “team aspect” of baseball.

“For some reason boxing I just had no fear,” he added.
