Valentine's Day, after Nearly 13 years, 2 kids, and a Mortgage.

My wife and I have been married since 2009, we had been dating prior to that since 2005.  We are settled into our relationship.  We now have two kids and mortgage to add to our family.  Like many we have financial problems.  At this point and maybe for the last few years we forgo gifts to each other for Valentines day.  It's not that we wouldn't enjoy a gift, but it just seems like a frivolous thing to spend money on.  We might get one another cards or maybe some candy at most, just trying not to spend too much money.  And I guess those things don't really say a whole lot, although nice.   The act of giving a card to your significant other I guess seems like you are just going through the motions of the relationship.

If we had the money to spend, below are some things I think we would do.

  • Romantic Dinner
  • Date night including dinner and movie
  • Flowers, at least I would get them for Laine.
  • Maybe a couples spa day or massage.
  • Overnight or weekend trip w/out kids
  • Fun night at the casino

At the moment that is all that comes to mind.

if you have any other suggestions please let me know.
