Disneyland, Universal Studios Call For Reopening Of Parks

Disneyland 50th Anniversary Celebration

Disneyland has been closed for 6 months now - after shutting down mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But when will finally be the right time for the amusement park to reopen their doors? Not only is Disneyland still closed, but so is the sister park, Disney's California Adventure. For the city of Anaheim, the closures of these two huge attractions are certainly taking a toll.

That's why this week, both Disneyland in Anaheim and Universal Studios near Hollywood have come together and sent a joint message to California's Governor Gavin Newsom asking him to reconsider the current restrictions on amusement parks and allow them to reopen.

Of course, the parks are not simply asking for the ability to open again without restrictions, but they are asking Gov. Newsom for guidelines that would allow them to safely have guests return. The California Attractions and Parks Association, which represents popular theme parks like Knott's Berry Farm, Legoland, Disneyland and Universal Studios, is asking for the Governor to implement COVID-19 regulations to allow the parks to get back to business.

The city of Anaheim specifically has called on Newsom to reopen Disneyland and Disney California Adventure claiming the city is on the verge of losing $100 million by having the park closed for this long.

The problem with opening a theme park, rather than opening something like indoor dining (which Orange County has been given the go ahead to reopen) is how difficult it would be to create the same safety. It would be difficult for parks to enforce physical distance, time of exposure (a 30 minute pass to Disneyland?) and avoid shouting or heavy breathing on rides that are meant to induce both.

I personally REALLY miss Disneyland and know that if there had not been a pandemic this summer, my family and I would have gone several times. We have taken the twins twice, and it's always so much fun to see the park through their 2-year-old eyes.

The question I have for you is: now that the parks are asking for Gov. Newsom to give them a way to open up... would you be comfortable going back if they did open soon?? I personally don't think I'm ready to expose myself, my kids or my family to that juuust yet.

Leave me a Yap with your thoughts on returning to an amusement park like Disneyland!
